Us on a full day trip on South Sea Island, totally loved it

South Sea Cruises (usually abbreviated to SSC) are a long established company that do day cruises to South Sea Island and others. The Tiger IV, AKA "the white boat" is a familiar sight in the waters around the Mamanucas, and as well as transporting passengers to their island resorts, it also takes day trip customers on a variety of Mamanuca island excursions.

While some of these excursions are on-board only (you don't get off anywhere, so rather pointless in our opinion), most of them drop you off at one of the islands, leave you there for several hours, then pick you up again for the return journey to Denarau.

What we DO like about these day trips...

These make for a nice easy way to get out and see some of the Mamanuca islands, if you are based on the mainland. Prices are quite reasonable, and you get use the island resort facilities. They also offer a free pickup service from Nadi and Denarau hotels which is very handy. They will also pick up from Coral Coast resorts but only if you're booked on a full day trip.

What we DON'T like about these day trips...

For these day trips, you will be travelling on the regular Tiger IV ferry that services all the Mamanuca islands and resorts. What that means, is that you don't go directly to your destination (unless yours is the closest one, which is South Sea island). For example, their day trip to Castaway is 9am to 6pm. But a lot of this is spent aboard the boat, dropping passengers off at their island resorts.
