Denarau Island, Fiji

Luxury Hotels, World Class Golf Course, Shopping and More

Back in the early 1970s, this was little more than a large area of tidal mangrove swamp. Today, it is home to beautifully manicured residences, five star resorts, world class golf and racquet club, as well as a fantastic boutique shopping mall. While you won't find cheap backpacker accommodation here, the resorts do run specials from time to time. Which means it is possible to stay at one of these upmarket properties for less than you might think. Ask your travel agent for current deals.

What's on offer at Denarau Island...

Denarau Golf and Raquet Club

Pride of place (in my opinion) goes to the Golf Club. Situated right in the heart of the island, you can't avoid seeing the fairways on your way to the marina. Great facilities. More details about the Golf Course here.

Luxury Hotels & Resorts

Denarau boasts a large number of five star luxury resorts, hotels and apartments. Choose from names like Westin, Hilton, Sheraton, Sofitel, or Radisson Blu. Most of these are situated on a beachfront location, while still being an easy walk to the golf course, marina, or shopping mall. Get an idea of what's on offer along with price range, facilities etc on our Denarau Resorts page.

Getting around Denarau

There is an open sided bus that does the rounds of Denarau... the Bula Bus. It takes about 15-20 minutes to compete the circuitIf you are staying at one of the Denarau hotels, then this is a great way to get to the shopping center, marina, or just to explore the other resorts and facilities available on the island. The open air Bula Bus provides transport around Denarau Island between the port (where all the restaurants are), hotels, waterpark and golf course. Easy to use and better than walking on hot days. However, its not so cheap at $9 FJD for a day pass and for a four day pass it'll set you back $26 FJD. The pass allows you to hop on and off where ever you like, kids love riding on it. The buses run every 10mins between all the resorts & the marina so you never have to wait long. Just buy your ticket on-board.

The yellow WestBus does the same trip but not so often, but heaps cheaper at $1 a trip. For airport transfers, taxi or other forms of transport go to our Transport in Fiji page.

Shopping Mall

There is the bigger shopping mall at Port Denarau and a second lot of smaller shops and cafe near the entrance to the Sheraton. Read more about Denarau Shopping Mall here.

Awesome playground to leave the kids for the day! Located on the other side of the road close to the Westin resort. Plenty of great slides and other activities.

Port Denarau Marina

You'll find all the ferries out to the islands here plus island day trips all start here too. The newly built Yacht Club is a great place for a cold beer and watch everything going on.
