With 287 homes, Cautata is Fiji's largest village. It doesn't feel like that when you arrive. With homes scattered among the native forest and hills, you only see a small part at a time. And what a wonderful view from those hills, out over the mangroves to the coast and the island of Viwa.
Why not consider a few days away from the hustle and bustle of Suva/Nausori, and relax in the village of Cautata? Perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of a village homestay, is that you get to be a part of life in the village, if only for a short time. No fake kava ceremonies like you get in a resort... these are the real thing, done the way locals have always done them.
If you have children, then the village elders will try to have you accommodated with a family that has children of the same age.
This can be as little or as much as you like. Get involved in village life and do some volunteer work at the school. Or perhaps take a trip out to the nearby reefs where locals go to collect sea cucumbers and certain types of edible seaweed. Help the fishermen repair their nets or set them. And of course there is the million and one daily tasks that keep a family going. From cooking to tending the vegetable plot or preparing meals.
