Denarau Island Golf Course

Wide fairways, immaculate greens, short rough, and a wonderful clubhouse to relax in after your round. What more could a golfer want? The Denarau Golf and Raquet Club is the centerpiece of Denarau island, you simply can't miss it as you have to travel past it on your way to the port or shopping complex.

Opened for play in 1993, the course used to be managed by Troon Golf but has since been taken over by the Sheraton. This means that guests of the Sheraton at Denarau can usually get some great golfing package deals that are not available to guests of other resorts.

The Course

The course is pretty much in the "resort" bracket, rather than championship. For those that don't know what that means, it is basically a rating system that says the course plays a little easier with wider fairways, less punishing rough etc. For the keen golfer that wants a challenge, you have the option of playing off the back tees. However, the casual amateur will probably appreciate that this course is easier to score well on compared to the upmarket Natadola course.

The course handbook does actually say this is a "championship course", but having played many championship courses over the years, I would have to disagree with that. But regardless, it's a fun course, it's not too hard if you hit the ball reasonably straight, and green fees are considerably cheaper than the more difficult Natadola course (fj$130 compared to fj$230).

Green Fees: fj$130
Green fees & club hire: fj$175

Cart Hire: included in green fees
Course: 18 holes, 7,150 yards (6,538 meters)

They have a wonderful clubhouse that offers full meals, pizzas, and flat screen TVs for watching the sports channels. There is also a mini golf complex, driving range (open until 9pm), and a fully stocked pro shop. You can book lessons with their resident coach, or if the golf is wearing you down, play some tennis on one of their 10 floodlit courts.

The complex has 10 courts, 6 grass and 4 all weather. They also cater to the kids as well, with an adventure playground, which along with the usual playground activities, also boasts a "bungee trampoline".
